Commissioned Pet Painting FAQ:

I currently offer  small scale (5×7 – 11×14) realistically-styled custom pet paintings paintings/portraits, working directly from photographs.

Where are you located?  I am based out of Rochester, MN but am happy to create paintings for you no matter where you live – shipping is easy and relatively inexpensive!

Do I need to provide the photograph for you to paint from?  Yes, this is preferred. However, if you do not have a suitable photograph and live in the local area, it may be possible for me to photograph your pet for an additional fee.

Are there photograph requirements?  Yes – a clear photo!  A digital photo is easiest, but I can likely work with a quality printed photo as well. I’m happy to take a peek at your photo to see if it is suitable – see contact information below.

Can you paint in black and white?  I love painting with color, but am open to transforming your photo to black and white if desired!

What about the background in my photo?  Simple and/or natural is most attractive and will help your pet stand out. Don’t worry if your photo has a less than ideal background, replacement with a solid color is always an option.

Can more than one pet be in each painting?  Sure!  I will try my best, but keep in mind that this depends on the size of your painting. Due to additional time/detail, please note there will be an additional charge per pet (see pricing below).

What type of surface do you paint on?  Gallery-wrapped canvas in your choice of depth: 1.5″ or .75″. I generally recommend 1.5″ if you don’t plan to frame it or will be resting it on a shelf. The thinner option is better suited to pieces that will be framed. Each painting comes with a high-quality sawtooth hanger attached so pieces may be hung easily by a single nail.

Do you offer framing?  Yes! Framing is relatively inexpensive and usually in the $25-45 range. Inquire for options.

What kind of paint do you use?  Professional quality acrylics.

How long will it take for my painting to be completed?  Please allow up to 4 weeks after I receive your photo/down payment. The wait may be shorter or longer depending on the season. If you are in a hurry, please contact me to discuss options as rush delivery may be possible.

Will I see my painting before it’s shipped/delivered?  Once your painting has reached the final stages, I will send you a digital proof to approve.

How does payment work?  A 50% down payment is required (via your choice of Paypal or credit card). After you provide feedback on a late-stage digital proof of your painting, you will receive a second invoice for the remainder of the cost (plus shipping, if required).

I don’t live nearby or I want to send one as a gift – will this work?  Sure! Shipping runs $15.00-$25.00 per painting within the US. Your artwork is very carefully packed and typically sent via USPS Priority Mail.

Would you consider painting something larger than 11×14?  Possibly! I have limited work space, and have found I prefer the detailed nature and appearance of smaller paintings – but if you’re looking for something larger, contact me and we’ll see what we can figure out.
